Company Overview
Shenzhen ZH Energy Storage Technology Co., Ltd. was founded in 2021 and is a global leading provider of advanced flow battery key materials and equipment, focusing on the R&D, manufacturing, and application of flow battery long-duration energy storage technology. The company aims to solve the industry pain point of high initial installation costs for flow batteries by developing low-cost, high-performance revolutionary key materials, making it a long-duration, low-cost, and safer large-scale energy storage technology, assisting China achieve its carbon-neutrality goals.
Relying on the 10-year industriy experience accumulated by Dr. Wei Xie, the founder of ZH Energy, in the U.S. flow battery industry, the company has developed advanced flow battery
stacks with world leading standards, built a stack production line with an annual capacity of a hundred of megawatts, achieved a 375kW-level standard module for all-vanadium flow batteries, delivered several megawatt-level flow battery projects world-wide, and possesses the production and O&M capabilities for large-scale flow energy storage projects. The company is jointly developing the next-generation low-cost sulfur-iron flow battery with Central South University of China, which can reduce the cost of current vanadium electrolyte by 85%, making it an economical and safe large-scale energy storage technology. The world's first sulfur-iron flow battery proof
of concept project jointly built by the company and the State Grid has been successfully connected to the grid and operates with globally leading performance. Currently, the company is preparing for the construction of the first megawatt-level sulfur-iron flow battery demonstration project in the country. The company has obtained equity investments from well-known investors such as Sequoia China, Yinshan Capital, and China Merchants International, and has established operation centers and R&D production bases in Shenzhen and Changsha respectively.
Dr. Wei Xie, the founder of ZH Energy, obtained his bachelor's and master's degrees in Materials Science and Engineering from Tsinghua University and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin. He was responsible for the development of ion exchange membranes and flow battery stacks at United Technologies Group, the largest fuel cell/flow battery company in the United States, and established Vionx Energy - the largest vanadium flow battery manufacturer in North America through technology licensing. In his more than ten years of R&D work on flow batteries, Dr. Xie has presided over multiple U.S. Department of Energy projects, among which the high-power density all-vanadium flow battery project won the 2013 National 100 R&D Awards. Dr. Xie has published nearly 20 international SCI journal papers and holds 18 U.S. authorized patents and 5 Chinese authorized patents.
