【 Summary 】The project Non-Fluorinated Ion Exchange Membrane for Hydrogen Energy and Flow Battery Applications won the second prize in the Science and Technology Innovation Project Group.
On October 31st, the Mantianxing Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition was successfully held at the Management Committee of Changsha Economic and Technological Development Zone in Changsha, Hunan Province. Officials from provincial and municipal functional departments attended the event, including Xiong Chen, member of the Party Group and Chief Economist of the Department of Industry and Information Technology of Hunan Province, Jiang Hongbo, Director of the Management Committee of Changsha Economic and Technological Development Zone, and Wang Zhengyu, a secondary researcher from the Department of Promoting Transformation of Scientific and Technological Achievements of the Science and Technology Department of Hunan Province.
After fierce competition, 12 winning projects were finally selected. Among them, the Hydrogen Energy and Flow Battery Non-Fluorinated Ion Exchange Membrane project from ZH Energy Storage won the second prize in the Science and Technology Innovation Project Group.
The competition attracted 153 college student entrepreneur teams and science and technology innovation enterprises, covering multiple fields such as artificial intelligence and low-altitude economy. Changsha Economic Development Zone has established a 10 billion yuan science and technology innovation fund through the Starry Sky Plan and its supporting policies, implementing six major actions to support science and technology innovation enterprises and college student entrepreneurs. Winning projects will receive policy support from the park.
The projects participating in this competition mainly focus on solving the bottleneck problems in the development of key materials in the current flow battery field, such as the selectivity of ions and electrochemical stability, which limit the performance application of flow batteries. The aim is to promote the progress of flow battery technology. To address these issues, ZH Energy Storage has proposed a solution for non-fluorinated ion exchange membranes for hydrogen energy and flow batteries. Through multi-level structural design, it has successfully resolved the contradictions between chemical stability, ion conductivity, and ion selectivity of non-fluorinated proton exchange membrane materials in the past. The PBI membrane series products have good ion conductivity and ion selectivity, excellent mechanical strength and chemical stability, and can be used in flow batteries, ion separation, hydrogen energy, and fuel cells. The PBI liquid flow battery membrane product achieves battery performance comparable to Nafion membranes while reducing costs by more than 80%. A 60cm wide product has been delivered to customers for pilot testing, successfully helping them reduce terminal product costs and enhance competitiveness.
