Against the backdrop of deepening energy-structure transformation, long-duration energy-storage technologies have become the crucial underpinning for building a new-type power system. Recently, ZH energy has rolled out the next-generation 2.0 liquid-flow-battery stack. Through major upgrades in flow-field and mass-transfer technologies, together with multi-dimensional innovations in materials, processes and production paradigms, the stack achieves a dual breakthrough of higher energy efficiency and sharply reduced cost.



The heart of a stack is the efficiency of current conduction and electrolyte mass transfer. The ZH energy R&D team focused on flow-field and mass-transfer technologies as their breakthrough point. Structural optimization and fluid-dynamics innovation have markedly improved electrolyte uniformity. The new 2.0 stack not only raises operating current density but also lifts energy efficiency by 2–5 % over the previous generation, while simultaneously enhancing charge–discharge cycle stability. This means that, at the same capacity, the battery system delivers higher output and longer life, cutting levelized cost of electricity across the full life cycle.

Cost control is another highlight of the 2.0 stack. Through three coordinated strategies, ZH energy has driven an overall cost reduction exceeding 30 %:

Materials: systematic selection and optimization of membranes, electrodes and bipolar plates lower material costs without compromising performance.

Manufacturing: process innovations greatly improve product consistency and yield, strengthening stability and economy throughout production.

Production model: the company advances standardized, modular production, continuing the modular-design philosophy. The structure is leaner, maintenance simpler, and flexible adaptation to multiple scenarios is straightforward. Together, these measures sharply lower the investment threshold for moving liquid-flow-battery technology from laboratory research to pilot lines and industrial deployment, offering manufacturers, research institutes and demonstration projects a more economical and feasible technical solution and powerfully accelerating the commercialization of liquid-flow-battery technology.

Liquid-flow batteries, inherently safe, long-lived and capacity-scalable, are rapidly rising in the global long-duration storage market. The new 2.0 stack from ZH energy not only upgrades performance but also achieves a major cost-control breakthrough, injecting fresh momentum into the broad commercial adoption of liquid-flow batteries.
